Our Commitment to Sustainability & Community

Raja Ampat is a global treasure. As the epicenter of marine biodiversity, its preservation is a responsibility we take with the utmost seriousness. At Raja Ampat Boat Trip, sustainability is not a marketing term; it is a core operational principle embedded in every decision we make. Our approach, guided by our parent company, the Juara Holding Group, is built on three pillars: protecting the pristine environment, empowering local communities, and promoting conscious travel.

Environmental Stewardship: Protecting the Last Paradise

Our primary mission is to ensure our presence in Raja Ampat has a net positive impact on the ecosystem.

  • Strict No-Plastic Policy: All voyages on our partner vessels are free of single-use plastics. We utilize onboard reverse osmosis water filtration systems, provide guests with reusable water bottles, and use glass and biodegradable containers for all provisions.
  • Carbon Offset Program: We calculate the estimated carbon footprint of every Raja Ampat boat trip, including vessel fuel consumption and domestic flights. We then invest in certified carbon offset projects through our partner, Gold Standard, focusing on Indonesian reforestation and renewable energy initiatives.
  • Waste Management Protocol: We enforce a strict ‘pack in, pack out’ policy. All waste is sorted onboard and transported back to Sorong for proper disposal at designated facilities. Nothing is ever discharged into the sea or left on remote islands.
  • Marine Conservation Funding: A portion of the revenue from every trip is donated directly to our conservation partners, including The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Indonesia and WWF Indonesia. These funds support critical projects like coral reef monitoring, manta ray research, and anti-poaching patrols.
  • Reef-Safe Practices: We mandate the use of reef-safe sunscreens and provide them complimentary to all guests. Our dive guides are trained to enforce a strict no-touch policy on all marine life and coral, and we adhere to the Raja Ampat Marine Park’s Code of Conduct for responsible diving and snorkeling.

Community Empowerment: Investing in People

We believe that sustainable tourism must directly benefit the local communities who are the traditional custodians of this region.

  • Local Employment Priority: We have a formal policy that over 75% of the crew on our partner vessels must be Indonesian nationals, with a strong preference for hiring from local Papuan communities. We invest in training programs to help local residents advance into more skilled roles like dive guides and engineers.
  • Sourcing from Local Enterprises: Whenever possible, we source fresh produce, fish, and supplies from local markets in Waisai and Sorong, ensuring that tourism revenue directly supports the local economy.
  • The Juara Community Fund: Through our parent group, we manage a dedicated community fund. Current projects include providing educational supplies to the primary school (SD) in Arborek village and supporting a women’s cooperative in Sawinggrai that produces traditional woven handicrafts, which we purchase as gifts for our guests.
  • Respectful Cultural Interaction: We work with village elders to ensure our visits are respectful and non-intrusive. We provide our guests with cultural briefings to foster meaningful and appropriate interactions.

Conscious Travel: Educating Our Guests

We aim to turn our guests into ambassadors for conservation.

  • Onboard Education: Many of our voyages feature presentations by our onboard marine biology experts. Guests learn about the unique ecosystem, the threats it faces, and the conservation efforts they are supporting through their trip.
  • Pre-Trip Briefings: Before their journey begins, all guests receive a comprehensive briefing package detailing our sustainability policies and providing guidelines for responsible travel in Raja Ampat.

Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey of improvement and adaptation. We are constantly seeking new ways to minimize our footprint and maximize our positive impact, ensuring that the magic of Raja Ampat can be experienced by generations to come.

Empowering Local Communities: A Shared Future

The vibrant culture of Raja Ampat’s indigenous communities is as captivating as its underwater world. Our commitment extends beyond environmental preservation to fostering a symbiotic relationship with the people who call this magnificent archipelago home. We believe true sustainability is inextricably linked to local well-being and economic empowerment. This principle guides our employment practices, ensuring a significant portion of our crew, from deckhands to local guides, are hired directly from Raja Ampat’s villages. We provide fair wages, comprehensive training, and professional development, cultivating a skilled workforce that benefits directly from luxury tourism.

Beyond direct employment, we actively seek out and support local businesses and artisans. From sourcing fresh, seasonal produce from village markets to
